Long description: This product is a digital reproduction of a vintage lithograph of Skipjack tuna, Katsuwonus pelamis, a medium-sized perciform fish in the tuna family, Scombridae. The original illustration was made with the lithography method, a planographic printing process that creates an image by using the immiscibility of oil and water12

Skipjack tuna is a cosmopolitan pelagic fish found in tropical and warm-temperate waters, where it forms large schools and feeds on fish, crustaceans, cephalopods, and mollusks. It is an important species for fisheries and is also known as katsuo, arctic bonito, mushmouth, oceanic bonito, striped tuna, or victor fish3 It has many common names in different languages, such as tulingan, budlisan, rayado, or bariles in Southeast Asia; balaya, bugudi, gedar, or kuppa in South Asia; katunkel, kiri-kiri, jodari, or sehewa in Africa; and cachorreta, listado, rayada, bonito, barrilete, and gaiado in Latin America, Spain, and Portugal3

The illustration shows the distinctive features of Skipjack tuna, such as its fusiform, elongate and rounded body; its small and conical teeth; its numerous gill rakers; its two dorsal fins separated by a small interspace; its anal fin followed by finlets; its short pectoral fins; its scaleless body except for the corselet and the lateral line; and its strong keel on each side of the caudal-fin base. The colour of the back is dark purplish blue, the lower sides and belly are silvery, and there are four to six very conspicuous longitudinal dark bands on the sides3
